Common types of air compressor bearings are used

An air compressor is a device used to compress gas. In order to make the mechanical equipment a good use of value, we must choose the most suitable bearing type according to the requirements of mechanical equipment and the needs of the work when purchasing air compressor bearings.

There are five common types of air compressor bearings: single row angular contact ball bearings, spherical roller bearings, tapered roller bearings, deep groove ball bearings and four-point contact ball bearings.

1. Single-row angular contact ball bearings

Mainly used as thrust bearings, single or tandem mounted (in tandem arrangement, they can withstand high thrust loads), suitable for situations where there are both radial loads and high axial loads in one direction, for pumps used to transport ammonia media will also use FP cages (pumps), bearings with a "B" suffix with a contact angle of 40°, such bearings can withstand high axial loads (pumps), and bearings with seals can also be used.

The newly developed double row angular contact ball bearings for stamped cage compressors with optimized geometry are mainly used as thrust bearings, mounted individually or in series (in tandem construction, they can withstand high thrust loads). Suitable for radial loads and high thrust loads in one direction, as well as ammonia pumps with FP cages. The "B" version with a 40° contact angle can withstand higher thrust loads and is also suitable for sealing newly developed stamped cages with optimized cage geometry.

2. Spherical roller bearings of air compressors

Pump-ready and able to withstand high pressures, this bearing compensates for machining defects or misalignment of shafts, can withstand both radial and axial loads, is self-aligning (up to 2°) for very high loads, and maintains dimensional stability at operating temperatures up to 200°C.

3. Air compressor tapered roller bearings

It has a high axial and radial load carrying capacity, and the bearing has precise radial guidance due to the small axial clearance.

4. Deep groove ball bearings of air compressors

It is mainly used as a locating end bearing, rarely used as a locating end bearing, suitable for high-speed operation, and can also be supplied with a sealed design.

Grease-lubricated deep groove ball bearings are suitable for applications with high n x dm values, depending on the application, and long-life lubrication is also possible, i.e. no relubrication is required.

5. Four-point contact ball bearing of air compressor

It is mainly used as a thrust bearing in compressors, which is not used to bear radial loads, but to bear large axial loads in both directions and can bear smaller radial loads. Since the inner ring of the four-point contact ball bearing is split, this design allows it to accommodate more rolling elements, thus increasing the radial load carrying capacity of the bearing.

Because the bearings are split inner ring design: the machined cage makes them more suitable for high-speed transfer situations, thanks to the small axial clearance that allows the bearing to be precisely radially guided, and the compact bearing design – no need for a separate locating bearing.

What are the factors that cause air compressor bearing damage?

1. Improper installation

2.poor lubrication

3. Pollution

4. excessive use

Recommendation: Select the appropriate bearing type and replace the fatigue bearing regularly and in a timely manner.
