Hub bearing units

The wheel bearing is one of the key components of the automobile, its main role is to carry weight and provide precise guidance for the rotation of the wheel hub, which requires it to bear not only axial load but also radial load.

The traditional bearings for automobile wheels are composed of two sets of tapered roller bearings or ball bearings, and the bearings are installed, oiled, sealed and the clearance adjustment are carried out in the automobile production line.

The hub bearing unit is developed on the basis of standard angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings, which integrates two sets of bearings, which has good assembly performance, clearance adjustment can be omitted, light weight, compact structure, large load capacity, grease can be installed in advance for sealed bearings, external hub seals are omitted and maintenance-free, etc., which have been widely used in cars, and have gradually expanded the application trend in trucks.

1. A generation of hub bearing units

Small and medium-sized automotive drive wheel applications

The first generation of hub bearing units is still our most widely used in the world. It is the first choice for small and medium-sized automotive drive wheel applications.

The first generation hub bearing units feature double rows of angular contact ball bearings with matching rings and ball sets to provide the required axial clearance. The contact angle is optimized to provide a specific preload and withstand specific wheel load conditions. Key features include:

Optimally handles the moment loads applied to the bearing during cornering

The cage is made of glass-fibre reinforced polyamide

High performance, application-specific grease, sealed for life

Different seal designs are available for different wheel bearing arrangements

An ABS pulse ring can be installed on the rotating ring

2. The second-generation hub bearing unit

Suitable for non-driven and driven wheel applications in medium-sized vehicles

In the most common second-generation hub bearing unit application, the brake disc or drum and wheel are mounted on a rotating flange. The second-generation hub bearing unit design features a flange ring with threaded bolts on the knuckle. The second-generation hub unit is typically used with a rotating outer ring for the non-driven front or rear wheels.

3. Three generations of hub bearing units

The third-generation hub bearing unit is achieved by installing a flange in a non-rotating bearing ring and another flange in the rotating ring of the bearing. A small swivel inner ring is mounted on the swivel flange inner ring to maximize the load carrying capacity.

It is suitable for drive and non-drive wheel applications in medium and large vehicles

In the third-generation hub bearing unit application, the brake disc or drum and wheel are mounted on a rotating flange. This rotating flange is machined in many cases after bearing assembly to achieve very low lateral run-out tolerances, helping to reduce vibration and noise during braking.

4. The hub bearing unit with ABS sensor mainly includes flange, ring gear rotating body, sealing assembly and hub, and is provided with ABS sensor on the hub, and the magnetic steel in the ABS sensor is set on the ring gear rotating body and matched with it; The ring gear rotating body is fixedly connected with the flange. The ABS sensor mainly includes a shell, a magnet and a coil, the magnet is set on the gear ring rotating body, and the magnet is matched with the gear ring rotating body; The coils are connected by signal wires and plugs. The gear ring rotating body is connected with the flange by splines. The end face of the flange is provided with holes that fit with bolts, which can be directly connected to suspension, braking devices and tires. There is a splined groove in the inner hole of the flange, which can be used with a constant velocity drive shaft. The beneficial effect of the utility model is that: this structure replaces the combination of original automobile steering knuckle, wheel hub, bearing, both integrates the functions of the three into one, and greatly reduces the volume of original structure, reduces weight, also greatly improves reliability
