The type of bearing cage, its function and the cause of the breakage

Although the bearing is composed of many parts, the cage can also be said to be the bearing blood vessels, so the performance of the bearing in use, the quality of the material of the cage is directly related to the efficiency of the bearing, the following shares the main types of bearing cages, the main role of the cage on the bearing, and the reasons for the damage of the cage.

What is a bearing cage?

A bearing cage (also known as a bearing cage) is a bearing part that partially encloses all or part of the rolling elements and moves with them, isolating the rolling elements, and usually guiding the rolling elements and holding them in the bearing.

There are three main types of bearing cages: nylon cages, window-type stamped steel cages, and window-type brass cages.

Advantages and disadvantages of bearing holding different types of use:

Nylon cage: the advantages are light weight, strong elasticity, good sliding performance, good marginal lubrication performance, and the disadvantage is that the operating temperature should be used below 120 degrees Celsius.

Window-type stamped steel cage: the advantages are light weight, high strength, no operating temperature limit, high-end shockproof and anti-acceleration, and the disadvantage is that it is sensitive to poor lubrication.

Window brass cage: The advantages are extremely high strength, extremely high shock and acceleration resistance, suitable for ultra-high-speed operation associated with circulating oil lubrication. Cons: Relatively (very) expensive.

The main functions of the bearing cage are:

1. The cage separates the rolling elements at equal distances and is evenly distributed on the circumference of the raceway to prevent the rolling elements from colliding and rubbing against each other during work;

2. Guide and drive the rolling elements to roll on the correct raceway;

3. In the separating bearing, the rolling element and a ring are combined together to prevent the rolling element from falling off;

The reasons for bearing cage damage are:

1. Insufficient bearing lubrication. The lubricating oil or grease is dried and not added in time (maintenance), and the lubricating oil or grease is not labeled correctly.

2. Impact load of bearing. Intense vibrations in the shock load produce the impact of the rolling elements on the cage.

3. Cleanliness of bearings. The bearing is not well sealed in the bearing box, and dust enters, and the friction between the rolling element and the cage is added, so that the cage is damaged.

4. Mistakes in the selection of materials for bearing cages. All kinds of cage materials have certain temperature resistance and speed requirements, if the material selection is not right, it is also the cause of cage damage.

5. Installation problems. The bearings are not installed correctly, and the cage is damaged during installation.

Other reasons. If the coupling is misaligned, the bearing is skewed and the force is uneven; The belt is installed too tightly; Environmental issues and more can damage bearings or cages.
