The use of hub bearings precautions
Worn or damaged wheel bearings or hub units can cause unsuitable and costly failures of your vehicle on the road, and even harm your safety. Please pay attention to the following matters in the use and installation of wheel bearings:
1. In order to ensure safety and reliability to the greatest extent, it is recommended that you always check the wheel bearings regardless of the age of the car - pay attention to whether the bearings have early warning signs of wear: including any friction noise during rotation or abnormal deceleration of suspension combination wheels when turning.
For rear-wheel drive vehicles, it is recommended that the front wheel bearings should be lubricated at 38,000 km. When replacing the brake system, check the bearings and replace the oil seals.
2. If you hear the noise from the bearing part of the hub, first of all, it is important to find the location where the noise occurs. There are many moving parts that can cause noise, and it is also possible that some rotating parts come into contact with non-rotating parts. If it is confirmed that it is noise in the bearing, the bearing may be damaged and needs to be replaced.
3. Because the working conditions of the front hub causing the failure of the bearings on both sides are similar, it is recommended to replace them in pairs even if only one bearing is broken.
4. Wheel bearings are sensitive, and the right methods and suitable tools need to be used in any case. In the process of storage, transportation and installation, the components of the bearing cannot be damaged. Some bearings require a large pressure press-in, so special tools are required. Be sure to refer to the car manufacturing manual.
5. When installing the bearing, it should be in a clean and tidy environment, and the entry of fine particles into the bearing will also shorten the service life of the bearing. It is very important to maintain a clean environment when replacing bearings. It is not allowed to hit the bearing with a hammer, and care should be taken not to drop the bearing on the ground (or similar improper handling). The condition of the shaft and housing should also be checked prior to installation, as even minor wear can lead to poor fit and thus early bearing failure.
6. Do not attempt to disassemble the hub bearing or adjust the sealing ring of the hub bearing unit, otherwise the sealing ring will be damaged and water or dust will enter. Even the raceways of the seals and inner rings were damaged, causing permanent failure of the bearings.
7. There is a magnetic thrust ring in the sealing ring equipped with ABS device bearing, which cannot be collided, impacted or collided with other magnetic fields. Remove them from the box before installation and keep them away from magnetic fields, such as the electric motors or power tools used. When these bearings are installed, the operation of the bearings is changed by observing the ABS alarm needles on the instrument panel through road condition tests.
8. In order to determine which side the thrust ring is installed on, you can use a small light thing to get close to the edge of the bearing, and the magnetic force generated by the bearing will attract it. When attaching, point the side with the magnetic thrust ring inward and face the sensitive element of the ABS. CAUTION: Incorrect installation may result in the failure of the function of the brake system.
9. Many bearings are sealed, and such bearings do not need to be greased throughout their life. Other unsealed bearings, such as double row tapered roller bearings, must be grease lubricated during installation. Due to the different sizes of the inner cavity of the bearings, it is difficult to determine how much grease to add, and the most important thing is to ensure that there is grease in the bearing, if there is too much grease, when the bearing rotates, the excess grease will seep out. General rule: The total amount of grease should account for 50% of the clearance of the bearing during installation.
When installing the lock nut, the size of the torque varies greatly due to the different bearing types and bearing seats. Take care to refer to the instructions.
