Bearing Components
Bearing components: One of the components that make up a rolling bearing, excluding all accessories.
Bearing rings: Ring-shaped parts of a radial rolling bearing with one or more raceways.
Bearing washers: Ring-shaped parts of a thrust rolling bearing with one or more raceways.
Flat retaining ring: A separable, substantially flat washer, used in its inner or outer portion as a retainer for the outer or inner ring of a radial cylindrical roller bearing.
Slanted retaining ring (separable): A separable ring with an "L"-shaped cross-section, used in its outer portion as a retainer for the inner ring of a radial cylindrical roller bearing.
Intermediate retaining ring: A separable ring in a roller bearing with two or more rows of rollers, used to isolate and guide the two rows of rollers.
Retaining ring: A single-hole ring with a constant cross-section, installed in an annular groove, axially positioning the rolling bearing within the housing or on the shaft.
Locking ring: A single-hole ring with a constant cross-section, installed in an annular groove as a retaining ring to hold the rollers or cage within the bearing.
Spacer ring: An annular component used between two bearing rings or bearing washers, or between two bearing halves or two bearing halves, to maintain a specified axial distance between them.
**Sealing Ring:** An annular cover consisting of one or more parts, fixed to one bearing ring or washer and contacting or forming a narrow labyrinth gap with the other ring or washer to prevent lubricant leakage and foreign object intrusion.
**Dust Cover:** An annular cover, usually stamped from a thin sheet of metal, fixed to one bearing ring or washer and extending towards the other ring or washer, covering the internal space of the bearing but not contacting the other ring or washer.
**Guard Ring:** A part attached to the inner ring or shaft ring, using centrifugal force to enhance the rolling bearing's ability to prevent foreign object intrusion.
**Rolling Element:** A ball or roller that rolls between raceways.
**Cage:** A bearing component that partially encloses all or some of the rolling elements and moves with them, used to isolate the rolling elements and usually also guides and holds them within the bearing.
**Separator:** A bearing component located between adjacent rolling elements and moving with them, used to isolate the rolling elements.
**Ball:** A spherical rolling element.
Roller: A rolling element with an axis of symmetry and a circular cross-section in any plane perpendicular to its axis.
Needle Roller: A small-diameter cylindrical roller with a high length-to-diameter ratio, generally 3 to 10 times its diameter, but usually not exceeding 5 mm in diameter. Needle roller heads can have several shapes.
