Ceramic bearings have advantages over all-steel bearings.
In recent years, significant progress and substantial achievements have been made in the research and development of ceramic bearings both domestically and internationally. They have been applied and have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in fields such as machine tools, chemical engineering, and aerospace.
Ceramic bearings offer the following significant advantages over all-steel bearings:
1. High speed and acceleration capability – They can operate at speeds exceeding 3 million dn values with reduced slippage, wear, and heat generation.
2. Long lifespan and wear resistance – The fatigue life of all-ceramic bearings is expected to be 10-50 times longer than that of all-steel bearings. Hybrid ceramic bearings also have a lifespan approximately 3-5 times longer than all-steel bearings.
3. Minimal lubrication requirements – Ceramic materials have a low coefficient of friction. Even with thinned or insufficient lubricating oil, the lubrication capacity of oil-lubricated ceramic bearings remains comparable to that of traditional lubricants commonly used in steel bearings.
4. Corrosion resistance – As ceramic materials are inert, they are more resistant to corrosion and wear.
5. High rigidity – Due to the high elastic modulus of ceramic materials, their rigidity is 15-20% greater than that of ordinary steel bearings.
6. High temperature resistance – All-ceramic bearings can withstand temperatures up to 500°C. 7. Low torque – Due to its structure, the torque of ceramic bearings is reduced by approximately 1/3.
8. Non-magnetic and non-conductive – Ceramic bearings are unaffected by magnetic or electrical damage.
With further research and breakthroughs in mass production technology, the application prospects of ceramic bearings in high-speed, high-temperature, and corrosion-resistant fields will be very promising.
Selection Recommendations
Ceramic bearings: If your equipment operates at high speeds (such as CNC machine tool electric spindles), requires anti-magnetic insulation, or seeks longer maintenance-free cycles.
All-steel bearings: If your application involves heavy loads, strong impacts, or is considering a comprehensive cost budget.
