Classification and Applications of Flat Bearings

Flat bearings are a common type of bearing in mechanical equipment, primarily used for support and friction reduction. A flat bearing is a sliding bearing consisting of a flat cage assembly with needle rollers, cylindrical rollers, or steel balls, and flat washers. These bearings are divided into needle roller flat bearings and ball roller flat bearings. Due to the use of high-precision cylindrical rollers (needle rollers), the contact length is increased, allowing the bearing to achieve high load capacity and high rigidity in a small space. It is mainly used to bear axial loads and has a wide range of applications. An advantage is that if the surfaces of adjacent parts are suitable for raceway surfaces, washers can be omitted, allowing for a more compact design. The cylindrical surfaces of the needle rollers and cylindrical rollers used in flat needle roller bearings and flat cylindrical roller bearings are profiled, reducing edge stress and increasing service life.

The main classifications of flat bearings are:

Sliding bearings: Bearings that use a lubricating oil film or grease film to reduce friction between direct contact surfaces.

Rolling bearings: Bearings that use rolling elements such as balls, cylindrical rollers, tapered rollers, or needle rollers to reduce friction and improve rotational efficiency.

When assembling a thrust bearing, which primarily bears axial loads, the following points should be noted during installation:

(1) Distinguish between the tight ring and the loose ring of the bearing.

(2) Identify the stationary parts of the mechanism.

(3) The loose ring of the bearing should always be on the end face of the stationary part.

Throughout the application fields of thrust bearings, including but not limited to the following:

Mechanical Equipment: Threshold bearings are used in various mechanical equipment, such as for support, guidance, and transmission.

Automotive Industry: Threshold bearings are used in automobile engines, gearboxes, wheels, and other components.

Power Equipment: Threshold bearings are also used for support and guidance of rotating parts in power equipment such as generators and transformers.
